The end of “The Apprentice”

January 17, 2011

I never actually got a chance to do a final post about the last episode of “The Apprentice” but I hope everyone enjoyed the show. Michelle is a deserving winner and Niamh did herself proud. We had a lot of fun (most of the time) making it and the positive comments make it all worth it. I’ve heard that preparations for Season 4 are already underway so there should be another series next September!

I am also working on a new project called www.PigSty.ie which is Ireland’s first online database of cleaners in Ireland. If you get a few minutes, check it out and I hope you find it useful. InBusiness magazine have done a feature article on it which you can read here.

Week 12: “The Interviews”

December 07, 2010

Last nights episode has always been my favourite every year in The Apprentice and this year was no different! It never fails to throw up some surprises and that’s the number one thing you need for great TV. Michelle handled herself so well after getting a piece of her past from 12 years ago thrown at her and that steadfast nature is testament to why she’s in the final now. Niamh and I have become great friends since making the show and I was so proud of her last night. I told her last week that she is the most employable of the 16 on the show and last night demonstrated why.

Will and Panos are two guys I’ve got great time for and thought the panel we a bit tough on them last night. All of us know that this is all about making a TV show and over time, we’ve learnt to live with both positive and negative aspects of being involved in the show but I think that after 11 weeks of grilling, last night would have been a good time to look at the positives of all the contestants that managed to get this far. I think the guy from BrightWater was very harsh on Will in particular and is forgetting that he is 22. Will certainly has a lot to learn (as do all of us) but I have yet to meet anyone who has successfully taken on so much in the few years he’s been working.

I was delighted to be asked back to be a part of the final task next week. We had a lot of fun making the episode and I hope it comes across in the TV edit. Both teams did a great job in what was a very difficult task. I don’t want to spoil it too much for anyone so tune in next Monday and see what happens!

Week 9: “The All-Ireland”

November 16, 2010

Well, last night was an interesting episode. It would have appeared to anyone watching that Will was going to get the road but in the end, Dave Cashman was shown the door. To be fair, I don’t think Dave should have been fired on the grounds of this task alone but a few other weeks had not gone his way so he was always in the firing line.

I watched last nights episode at home and was blown away by how bad Barrys’ teams presentation was. Why didn’t they give everyone in the crowd a meal and ask them to just pull the string as soon as they sat down? Barry could then have had 5 minutes of filler-talk as the meals heated and then had them all try the grub. It was such a simple product to sell! The packaging was beyond awful and would love to have been there to help out with that. At least Barrys team took a gamble with the type of product and didn’t just play it safe with the ol’ reliable – the chocolate bar.

Next week looks like a real car crash and from talking to the lads, the trailers are 100% correct!

Week 8: “A diamond in the rough cut”

November 09, 2010

Apologies that I haven’t updated this blog with the recent episodes in a few weeks but I’ve been up the walls here at Walsh Engineering. Week 8 was pretty entertaining to say the least and I do feel bad for Tara in how she got backed into the corner she ended up in. This seemed to me to be the toughest task to date and both teams did a pretty poor job but given the time constraints, I guess you’ll forgive them to some degree.
